Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Genesis 30 differ from previous Genesis models?
Engineered for next-level performance, the Genesis 30 makes stoppering and latching easier than ever, while expanding compatibility with a broader range of accessories. With a refined, space-saving footprint and significantly lower GWP refrigerants, it outperforms and outclasses earlier Genesis models across usability, efficiency, and sustainability.
How does the Genesis 30 reduce its Global Warming Potential?
The Genesis 30 uses refrigerant gases with GWPs of just 2 and 6, compared to the old system’s gases with GWPs of 1,774 and 13,396. This significant reduction reflects our commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental footprints.
What process controls does the Genesis 30 offer?
The Genesis 30 can be configured with one of two control systems: Merlin or LyoLogic.

The Merlin control system automates the drying process and manages recipes from a touchscreen, with 8 standard temperature probes, a Pirani gauge, and stoppering control. The optional Merlin Software & Workstation adds historical data trending and CSV data export.

The LyoLogic control system, built on the Copa-Data Zenon HMI/SCADA platform, supports 17 primary/secondary drying steps and 12 thermal treatment steps, up to 16 total temperature probes, and automatic Pirani/Capacitance Manometer endpoint detection. A 21 CFR Part 11 compliance ready version is also available, adding batch reporting, UPS backup, and SQL database compliance.
Is the Genesis 30 suitable for GMP and regulated environments?
Yes. The LyoLogic control system is available in a 21 CFR Part 11 compliance ready version, adding e-signatures on recipe changes, a secure encrypted audit trail for events and alarms, and full security integration with the Microsoft Windows operating environment. Both Merlin and LyoLogic control systems are fully configurable and validatable for regulated pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications, with testing protocols and onsite IQ/OQ validation support.
How many temperature probes does the Genesis 30 have?
8 temperature probes are included as standard, with up to 16 available on LyoLogic.
What cooling configurations does the Genesis 30 support?
The Genesis 30 is available in either an air-cooled or a water-cooled configuration. Air-cooled units release approximately 11,500 BTU/h of peak heat directly into the room. Water-cooled units route heat into a facility water loop (4 to 12 Lpm usage) instead, generating about 4,100 BTU/h in the room.
Is it easy to defrost and clean the Genesis 30?
Yes. The Genesis 30 uses hot gas defrost, which loosens ice from the condenser walls before it fully melts, so a full defrost isn't always necessary. Its smooth-walled condenser also makes routine cleaning easy and supports fast turnaround between freeze-drying cycles.
Can the Genesis 30 process multiple vial sizes at once?
Yes. Shelf latching kits allow individual shelves to be set to different heights, so different vial sizes can be loaded on separate shelves during the same cycle. Stroke Saver spacers also keep stoppering fully seating vials even on partially loaded shelves, and shelf spacers provide additional height adjustment where needed.
Can the Genesis 30 process GORE® LYOGUARD® trays?
Yes. The Genesis 30 was designed for compatibility with both sizes of GORE® LYOGUARD® trays. Dedicated LYOGUARD transfer trays are also available, supporting the safe handling and loading of filled LYOGUARD containers into the freeze dryer.
What kind of training is available for operators?
We offer Remote Freeze-Drying Training and Hands-On Training Opportunities to ensure operators can effectively and sustainably utilize the Genesis 30. These programs help maximize cycle efficiency and optimize system performance.
Can the Genesis 30 handle a variety of applications?
Absolutely! The Genesis 30 is designed for versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of industries and applications including but not limited to:
  • Small Production Freeze-Drying
  • Diagnostic Kits
  • Bone/Tissue Engineering
  • 96 Well Plates
  • Serum Bottles & Vials
  • Bulk Products for Analysis
