Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Standard, Plus, and Elite models?
The EZ-2 Standard is designed for volatile solvents with boiling points up to 120 °C. The EZ-2 Plus is designed for more challenging solvents, including water and HPLC fractions, with boiling points up to 165 °C. The EZ-2 Elite is designed for the most demanding applications, including high-boiling-point solvents such as DMSO, DMF, and NMP, and fast lyophilization workflows.
How does the EZ-2 ensure sample safety?
It uses several technologies for sample protection, including Dri-Pure® anti-bumping technology to eliminate sample loss, foaming, and cross-contamination, precise sample temperature control using an IR sensor to help maintain sample integrity, and automatic end-of-run detection to prevent unnecessary exposure to heat and vacuum. Additional features such as the Inert Gas Blanket option can also help protect moisture-sensitive samples.
What type of vacuum pump does the EZ-2 use?
The EZ-2 uses different vacuum pumps depending on the model. The EZ-2 Standard uses an internal oil-free diaphragm pump with an ultimate system vacuum of < 11 mbar; the EZ-2 Plus uses an internal oil-free diaphragm pump with an ultimate system vacuum of < 3 mbar; and the EZ-2 Elite uses an external oil-free scroll vacuum pump with an ultimate system vacuum of < 0.4 mbar.
What types of solvents can the EZ-2 handle?
The EZ-2 can handle a wide range of solvents, with capabilities varying by model. The EZ-2 Standard is designed for volatile solvents; the EZ-2 Plus can handle more challenging solvents, including nitric acid, and HPLC fractions; and the EZ-2 Elite is optimized for high-boiling-point solvents like DMSO, DMF, and NMP. Additionally, the entire EZ-2 range can also be configured to handle 6M HCl and explosive solvents such as diethyl ether and pentane with the appropriate options.
Can the EZ-2 replace a freeze dryer?
Depending on your application, yes. The EZ-2 Elite is capable of fast lyophilization of HPLC fractions and other aqueous samples, producing a dry, fluffy powder that is easy to weigh and re-dissolve. If your goal is to produce a long-term shelf-stable lyophilized product, however, a dedicated freeze dryer may be the better choice.
What sample formats does the EZ-2 support?
The EZ-2 supports a wide range of sample formats, including microplates, microcentrifuge tubes, test tubes, vials, bottles, and flasks. It is also compatible with SampleGenie™ technology, which allows larger-volume samples to be concentrated or dried directly into a smaller collection vial.
Can the EZ-2 handle a variety of applications?
Absolutely! From metabolomics and PFAS analysis to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical research, the EZ-2 is equipped to support the demands of your workflow.
