The use of lyophilized beads is growing in both the diagnostics and pharma sectors. They are often used for applications such as PCR assays, microfluidics, drug delivery and encapsulation of bacteria, especially to meet the swift increases in demand dictated by the market. Some key benefits related to lyobeads compared to “classic” formats are the higher production throughput, the possibility to change the product container, faster reconstitution and extended shelf life. This presentation is aimed at both R&D and manufacturing groups interested in understanding WHY lyobeads have become so popular, HOW they are made and WHAT exactly they are used for. A series of case studies by Biopharma Group will be presented to show the entire development and process stages for some common lyobead applications in the freeze drying industry. Presented by Dr. Mattia Cassanelli, PhD, Technical Manager – Consultancy at Biopharma Group
