Rapid reconstitution is an important attribute for lyophilized drug products. However, a major challenge to the development of high concentration lyophilized protein formulations is slow and variable reconstitution times, sometimes exceeding 1 hour. The presentation will provide a fundamental understanding of the factors governing reconstitution, particularly focusing on the effects of crystallinity, viscosity and cake porous structure. Strategies for mitigating long reconstitution times by selecting suitable formulation and processing parameters will also be discussed.
